Akitas are Japanese working dogs (hunting, fishing, guarding). They require an experienced handler and are not for first-time dog owners.

The Staff has increased to two Akitas again - Kiana and her new buddy, Hershey. Neither of them will answer the phones or check the email, but are great at welcoming people (except the UPS man) and giving kisses. Kiana is happy to have Hershey on board. She carried on bravely for a whole year without her buddy and mentor, Taiko.

KIANA

Kiana is our 5-year old apprentice who transferred from Canada three years ago. She's still learning the job, but is most proficient at squirrel chasing and de-stuffing the toys. She hated Halloween as she found the costumed midgets quite scarey.

Kiana was rescued by the Vancouver B.C. Akita rescue society. She was in foster care for 6 months learning etiquette and getting spoiled after spending 2 miserable years chained to a trailer.

Kiana and Hershey in a very animated discussion over "how to flash a chimney".

HERSHEY

Hershey is an 8-year old rescue Akita. He recently joined our team in October 2003. Hershey is the brawn of the company weighing in over 100 pounds with a heart of gold. He'll be overseeing snack breaks and siestas.

Ironically, Hershey was rescued by the same society who rescued Kiana. He was badly neglected and has required a great deal of veterinary treatment. He's on the mend and ready to tackle new projects!

TAIKO
In Loving Memory (Sept. 12, 1991 - August 22, 2002)
Our wonderful friend succumbed to cancer in August, just shy of his 12th birthday. Taiko is missed by his friends and family. He was met at Rainbow Bridge by his lifetime buddy, Tanuki.

Taiko and Tanuki... together forever at Rainbow Bridge.
